Project: House on Sandtor quay, Hamburg
This office building is located on a new and - from an urbanistic point of view - important axis, called Großer Grasbrook connecting the harbour estate with the City Centre. It is the last or respectively the first building block on the polder at the Sandtorkai where 8 new buildings line up as architectonic gems.
Two large flights of stairs and a spacious entrance make up the prestigious access for the public to the polder and the building. The entrance secured against flood water also gives the fire brigade access to all 8 buildings.
High quality architectural concrete for a prestigious building
The polder becomes the theme of the building and the vertical starting point on two sides, the North and East façades. The South and West façades open up to the Sandtor inner harbour and the docks scenery. Thus, the new building presents itself like a stone back plane in front of the warehouse estate and glass clear in front of the water. The selected materials back up the solid character of these North and East façades: large, 12 cm thick, precast concrete cladding panels coloured by penetrating red dye. The glass façade appears to be slightly displaced by the wind compared to the horizontal floor ceilings.
