Comprehensive Renovation of the Riedbahn – Successfully Completed

The Riedbahn is one of Germany’s key railway corridors, with over 300 daily train movements in both passenger and freight transport. As a pilot project for Deutsche Bahn’s high-performance network, it underwent extensive modernization. HERING Systeme was responsible for the planning, production, and installation of six platforms and three platform roofs.

Comprehensive Platform Modernization in a Short Construction Period

Within a tight timeframe between mid-August and the end of September 2024, two new platforms were constructed, two existing platforms were upgraded and raised to the required height, and two additional platforms were extended. Various modular platform solutions from the HERING modula® series were used, including modula® Type 1, modula® light Type 1, and modula® flex. The platform solutions implemented cover a wide range of sizes – from compact formats measuring 3.0 x 7.1 meters to large-scale platforms measuring 4.61 x 220.0 meters.

Installation of System Roofs Under Challenging Conditions

As part of the project, HERING also installed three system roofs. This included two Evolution Type 1 roofs and one Evolution Type 3 roof at the stations in Dornheim and Walldorf. Installation took place within a demanding timeframe of just 33 days, running parallel to all other track and station works. The tight schedule posed a significant challenge, which was successfully overcome thanks to HERING’s efficient construction methods and optimized process coordination.

The comprehensive renovation of the Riedbahn marks a milestone in the modernization of Germany’s rail infrastructure. We are proud to have contributed to this pilot project with our platform systems," said Alexander Warmbold, Team Manager for Modular Platforms at HERING Bau.
