The HERING team built a 2.3-kilometre-long noise barrier along the Deutsche Bahn’s stretch of track between the Freiburg and Breisach stops. The height of the wall varied between 1.5 metres and 2.5 metres. The aluminium elements were installed using a road-rail excavator.
A 22-metre-long and 10-tonne torsion beam was also erected in the area of the pedestrian ‘Elefantenweg’ (‘Elephant Way’) underpass as part of the project to allow the noise-abatement elements to be suspended from there. A total of 4,500 square metres of aluminium noise barriers were installed. Leonhard Weiss GmbH & CO KG in Göppingen was the general contractor and DB Netz AG in Karlsruhe was the principal.
