Innovative hotel at Frankfurt Airport

Hering opens Germany’s first transit hotel “MY CLOUD” inside Frankfurt am Main Airport

Germany’s first transit hotel was opened on 6th March 2017 at Gate Z 25 in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport. The close proximity to the gate ensures short and comfortable distances to boarding and the next connecting flight. This thus facilitates a unique hotel experience for all passengers without having to leave the security area. In contrast to the classical accommodation concept, air passenger can book the rooms by the hour.

The “MY CLOUD” Hotel offers its guests 59 stylishly furnished rooms for resting and relaxing. They are modern and fully furnished with a comfortable bed, desk, stool, free WiFi, TV, a separate bathroom with shower and WC as well as an infotainment system. Additionally, there is 24/7 service at reception as well as tasty snacks, sandwiches and drinks from the fresh vending machine.

“The hotel is more than a supplement to the diversity of what we offer” says Christian Balletshofer, division manager of property of Fraport AG. “The transit hotel is innovative and fulfils our customers’ requirements. The hotel rooms have been designed as places of retreat where you can enjoy your stay at the airport and relax.“

The transit hotel is impressive with floor-to-ceiling panorama windows and a monumental view of the apron and makes the waiting time for customers until their connecting flight as pleasant as possible. The flexible booking possibility where the minimum booking is three hours provides guests with maximum flexibility and convenience.

“The MY CLOUD Transit Hotel is located in the Non-Schengen Area. It is for transit passengers who have no visa or entry permit and who thus cannot leave the transit area at Frankfurt Airport,” Georg Huckestein, managing director of Hering Service GmbH, emphasizes the specifics. The transit hotel supplements the range of services for transfer passengers at Frankfurt Airport and thus simplifies complicated and lengthy entry formalities.

Hering Service GmbH, which acts as investor and operator, concluded a corresponding rental agreement with Fraport AG in March 2014. This was followed by detailed plans and preparatory work so that the actual construction work could start in February 2016. Up to 10 different trades worked side-by-side on site at times. Up to 40 construction workers had to be coordinated. But also the fact that the construction was being built in existing property and part of the building equipment had to be adopted was a great challenge.

In parallel to the construction work, a team was for formed for operations on site. Under the leadership of the hotel manageress and three housekeepers, 10 employees now work at reception. All of them are multilingual and experienced in the hotel business and customer service.

After the final inspections and approvals in February 2017, the hotel was opened. In the scope of a small ceremony on 8th March 2017, Ms Hering thanked the Fraport employees involved as well as architects, engineers and everybody else that was involved in the project. Even Ms Giesen, from the management board of Fraport, congratulated on this very successful project.
