Kassel Central Station – A Champions League Effort in Track Construction

With the completion of the extensive switch and track renewal at Kassel Central Station, our track construction team from HERING Bahnbau successfully mastered one of the most challenging construction projects of the year. Between July 7 and September 1, 2025, a total of 34 switches, one crossing, and around 450 meters of track were renewed during three consecutive closure periods – all under extremely complex conditions.

The first two construction phases each had to be completed within just three weeks, while the final closure period lasted only two weeks. During this short timeframe, another nine switches and one crossing were fully rebuilt. In addition to the tight schedule, the work was further complicated by restricted space, cable civil engineering tasks, signal foundations, and explosive ordnance surveys.

In parallel to the actual reconstruction, switches were unloaded, assembled, and repositioned using large-scale machinery. All excavated material had to be transported, while aggregates were loaded and installed in-house – an effort that demanded the highest level of organizational and technical precision. The GGZ was also deployed twice and, thanks to the support of HERING Bahndienste (find news dated 26.08.2025), was safely guided through the construction site.

The success of this project is above all due to the dedicated teams – first and foremost the track construction crews. But the logistics and track-bound heavy machines teams also made a decisive contribution through their tireless efforts.

This project was not a local league match – it was Champions League: Successfully completing a construction project of this magnitude deserves the highest recognition and shows that top performance is only possible with team spirit, precision, and passion.
