HERING’s ‘Schotterbiene’ (ballast hopper car) in conjunction with a material conveyor unit allows gravel to be safely, efficiently and quietly laid as bottom ballast, top ballast or tamping ballast in the track. The ballast previously bunkered in the material conveyor units is transferred from the front into the hopper car’s ballast hopper.
The ballast may then be directed and discharged into the working track using four independently adjustable guide plates. The system allows the ballast to be discharged both between and outside the rails – even at the same time.
The car is operated manually and the working area is illuminated. Both hoppers are lined with rubber, which makes it possible to discharge the ballast with a minimum of noise.
The ‘Schotterbiene’ may, of course, also be used as a normal ballast car!
