Niemeyer Sphere at the old boiler house Leipzig

Combining a restaurant and works canteen was Mr Koehne's idea. Since he liked Mr Oscar Niemeyer’s spectacular architectural projects, he asked Mr Niemeyer, got an appointment and a the corresponding planning realising the idea of a spherical cafe - a sculpture made of white concrete attached to a brick ensemble,  which should house a two-storey café-lounge with room for 50 guests as of April 2019. This was an unprecedented challenge that had to be met, even after the death of Mr Niemeyer. The entire project of Mr Kern and Mr Koehne was to be completed by the end of May 2020 and concluded with an "opening ceremony".

To ensure that the restaurant can also be used on warm days, Mr Kern had the idea for an outdoor terrace with direct access to the spherical restaurant.
The terrace is made of 180 betoShell®Flex30 textile concrete panels in beige with a blasted and hydrophobicised surface on an aluminium substructure.
