Operations commenced at the new Emmerich-Elten stop

The RE19 stopped again at Elten, Emmerich’s largest district, for the first time in 54 years on 1 July 2019. The Rhine-IJssel-Express thus connects the provisional platform on Lobither Strasse with the route from Arnhem in the Netherlands to Düsseldorf.

The railway construction and systems departments joined forces to enable the reconnection of the border town Emmerich-Elten to the railway network on behalf of DB Station & Service AG as the principal client. The joint RRX Außenast 5 project to create the stop at Emmerich-Elten and build two new temporary platforms along with a footpath over the level crossing was commenced in September 2018.

Both for Emmerich’s residents and the mayor, the completion of the new stop is a positive development that will also deliver benefits in regard to the utilisation of the connection’s capacities and its cost-effectiveness. The client particularly praised all those colleagues involved who contributed to the completion of the stop on schedule.
