Remarkable foundation with steel piping: New stop for Melsungen

A completely new and barrier-free stop is being built on the 6340 rail line in Melsungen-Schwarzenberg between Halle (Saale) and Guntershausen for DB Station & Services AG. The corresponding construction work commenced in April 2022.
HERING built two new prefabricated platforms on a ‘greenfield site’ for this construction project, each with a length of 140 metres and each featuring two ramp systems.

The non-load-bearing soils represented the greatest challenge during this phase of the work: Foundations for the platforms and ramps were created using a total of 54 steel pipes each that possessed a diameter of 508 millimetres and that were driven into the ground to a depth of around eight metres. Different tolerances that were, on the one hand, due the steel pipe foundation of 10 centimetres and, on the other, to the prefabricated design of one centimetre needed to be taken into account. In close cooperation with our colleagues from HERING Systeme, we jointly developed and implemented the supports that were required for the transition from the steel-pipe foundation to the system platform.

This method of implementation was unique and consequently the first project of its kind to be realised in Germany!

The prefabricated ramp sections that will conclude the project are to be installed at the end of the year.
