Technology for a Good Cause: HERING Donates Laptops to Children’s and Youth Welfare Center in Olpe

The residential care facility supports children and adolescents who face challenging life circumstances. Today, functioning computers are essential—for schoolwork, job applications, and accessing digital learning platforms. All the more concerning: until recently, the facility was still using devices running the outdated Windows 7 operating system—an insecure system no longer suited to today’s requirements. As part of its commitment to social responsibility, HERING has donated four decommissioned but fully functional laptops to the "Residential Child & Youth Welfare Service" in Olpe (GFO). The devices are intended to give the children and young people at the center access to modern technology—especially for school and creative projects.

Enabling a technical fresh start for the young residents was therefore a top priority. For data protection reasons, the donated laptops had their old hard drives removed and replaced with new ones. The devices were then thoroughly cleaned and updated with the latest technology.

The project was led by our dedicated apprentice Leon, who independently took care of the organization, refurbishment, and installation—including a personal handover on-site.

The joy among the children, youth, and the center's management was immense. Their response: heartfelt gratitude and enthusiasm for the practical support.
With this donation, HERING is also sending a strong message about sustainability. At a time when electronic devices are often discarded prematurely and replaced with new ones, this project demonstrates how reuse and refurbishment can help conserve valuable resources.

Thank you, Leon, for your outstanding commitment!
