MVSA Meyer en van Schooten Architecten, Amsterdam, NL

Almere’s public library is located in the city centre. The idea for this spectacular building was born in the offices of the architects Meyer en Van Schooten, Amsterdam. The vision was to create a department store for literature and information whose façade is supposed to represent the layers of the earth by a wave-like relief structure. Architectural precast concrete panels with acid etched and washed surface were manufactured with two different surfaces in one panel as a premiere for this architecturally very demanding façade. Acid etched betoShell® cladding panels with a thickness of only 30 millimeters, made of textile reinforced concrete were used to clad the 3600 m2 roof. The charcoal grey concrete made of basalt and granit gives the building exterior a smart visual effect and underlines its uniqueness.
