A new practice house was built for the dancers of the ballet of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Bilk, a district of Düsseldorf, in September 2015. The drafts for the ÖPP project originated from the Berlin team of gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner. The façade of the cubic building harmoniously blends in with its industrial neighbourhood and thus stands in contrast to its creative functionality. With that, the practice house is visually dominated by grey, smoothly formed exposed concrete, which was combined with large glass surfaces and a dark metal façade. The planners decided in favour of the innovative material concept textile concrete by Hering Architectural Concrete. By doing so, with dimensions of 2.25 x 0.75 m, element depths of 40 mm could be implemented.
