The WDR mediagroup headquarters are located in the heart of Cologne, in close proximity to the cathedral. The aged office building had to be completely renovated according to a feasibility study by SSP SchürmannSpannel AG. The outer shell of the building contributes substantially to its modern appearance. The five-storey building was clad with white prefabricated concrete components. The surface is grafted by alternating sandblasted and ground processing. The massive prefabricated concrete components were too heavy for the additional attic storey, and so slender elements made of betoShell®, which look very similar, were used instead.
Modern office facilities allow flexible organisation. The architects met this demand applying a new room division in the interior.
