Milestones in company history

  • Foundation of the building company

    by Rudolf Hering. He a skilled bricklayer when he founds the company HERING in 1892. Would he have believed, more than 100 years ago, that the family business HERING was going to be successful within and even beyond the European borders and that it was going to continuously strengthen its position! Without the courage and the ability to obtain people to pursue a common task, this would not have been possible.

  • First public and industrial orders:

    • Construction of the wall surrounding the Niederdresselndorf station (client: Deutsche Reichsbahn)
    • Construction of ballast silos in Lützeln and loading silos near to the Dresselndorf station (clients: the companies Storch and Schöneberg)
    • Reconstruction as general contractor of the dynamite production plant in Würgendorf (client: Dynamit Nobel Würgendorf)
  • Ernst Hering

    assumed control of the company in 1928, at a time of serious economic uncertainty. He studied architecture and gained the title of master builder in 1935.

  • Construction of the first company building in Hickengrundstraße

  • Core activity: complex building construction projects, e.g.:

    • Construction of the post office in Haiger
    • Construction of the Blue Cross family hostel in Holzhausen
    • Reconstruction of the goods station in Wetzlar
    • Construction of the furniture store “Franz” in Haiger
  • Purchase of a tamping machine at a time when track laying started to become more technological

  • Hartmut Hering

    studied architecture and became head of the company in 1960 until he handed over his baton in 1996.

  • Construction of the precast concrete sections factory

    First big project: construction of the central furniture warehouse “Franz” in Haiger

  • Introduction of a profit share scheme for staff,

    the so-called “partnership model”

  • Development of first standard products:

    Weather shelters, HERING WC facilities

  • Successful completion of first turnkey projects:

    Fire stations and gymnasiums

  • Acquisition of the dynamic track stabiliser DGS 62 N

  • Setting up of a new branch in Leipzig and purchase of a second track laying crane

  • First building company in Europe to be validated according to EMAS

  • Annette Hering

    graduated from her studies as an industrial engineer and today is the fourth generation to take responsibility for the company.

  • Development of foreign markets

  • First external audit according to DIN ISO 9001

  • Development of the system platform type modula®

  • Closure of the pre-assembled turnkey activity

    and focus on prefabricated high-quality facades

  • Award “Supplier of the year 2003 by DB AG” (German Railways)

  • Extension of rail crane fleet by a 150 tons crane

  • Winner of the BMAS "Shaping Employment" competition

  • Takeover of VolkerRail Deutschland GmbH

    and foundation of HERING Gleisbau GmbH, Wesel

  • Development and market launch of "rail & fresh",

    HERING's premium public toilet facility for railway stations

  • First great order in the field of "Noise protection systems for railways"

    on the railway line between Coburg and Ilmenau

  • Market introduction of HERING Architectural Concrete HAC

    at the BAU 2015 in Munich

  • Nomination as “2016 Supplier of the Year” by DB AG (Deutsche Bahn AG)

  • 125-year anniversary of HERING!

  • HERING opens Germany’s first transit hotel “MY CLOUD”

    inside Frankfurt am Main Airport

  • First declaration of compliance

    issued in accordance with the ‘Deutsche Nachhaltigkeits Kodex’ (DNK – ‘German Sustainability Code’)

  • First sustainability report with integrated environmental statement in accordance with EMAS

  • EcoVadis "Gold" award

  • Deutsche Bahn Supplier Awards 2020 / 2021: HERING nominated in the ENVIRONMENT category

  • Development of Foundation Construction Train

    A new special foundation construction technique revolutionizes railway construction
