Evolution 2020 platform roof system

Deutsche Bahn’s search for standardised roofs that were optimised in terms of construction/operating costs as well as assembly time meant that intelligent, modular system solutions were necessary. Consistent implementation and development of this idea resulted in the Bodenheim and Evolution 2020 (former Bodenheim light) system roofs.

Together with DB AG, HERING developed the Bodenheim roof system in 2001. Bodenheim was refined several times over the next few years and was also available as a variant with the name Bodenheim light. In order to implement such a simplified approach across Germany in the future, the Evolution 2020 roof type was designed as a further development and is a successor to the Bodenheim roof, whilst being a reference for construction standards.

Evolution 2020 is characterised by a very high degree of prefabrication, standardised components and profiles, as well as a time-saving assembly concept.  Prefabrication of steel profiles and sheets to only a small number of component modules within production means simple assembly in short set-up and construction times. Despite this high degree of standardisation, the roof covers a wide range of individual platform shapes/geometries.

Evolution 2020 - system benefits:

  • DB Station & Service AG approved roof system (construction standards)
  • Large variety of designs and a high degree of functionality
  • Low life cycle costs (LCC)
  • Fast, cost-effective assembly processes
  • Can be used for all common platform geometries
  • Integration of available stairways or elevator systems
  • Simple replacement and retrofitting of system components
  • Integration of sonication / lighting / grounding / glazing

Modular design

Usually, the roof covering consists of sandwich profiles. The visual difference, compared to the Bodenheim type of roof for railway platforms, lies in the lack of a corrugated sheet cover on the outside of the roof.

The integrated lighting and sonication take both architectural and safety-relevant aspects into account. Furthermore, important points regarding the improvement of platform roofs carried out by DB Station & Service AG such as accessibility of the roof via grates, location of lighting, etc., on the Evolution 2020 are also in the Bodenheim roof in the same way.

As you would expect, we will gladly assist you when planning your system room projects. In order to achieve cost-effective and functional solutions tailored around your project, we provide planning aids such as plan templates and ranges of Revit components in our digital planning catalogue.

HERING sustainability

At HERING, we see ourselves as pioneers in the field of sustainability. As early as 1996, we were the first construction company in Germany to obtain EMAS certification. Every three years, we publish an environmental statement documenting our goals and how we have achieved them. Actually, for the first time, we published a sustainability report with an integrated environmental statement in accordance with EMAS - a logical next step in view of our ecological and social responsibility. It documents how we deal internally and externally with the issues that are essential to our future viability.
