Low sound barrier next to the track: Gabion newly constructed in Andernach

[Translate to English:] Niedrige Lärmschutzwand in Andernach errichtet

Within the scope of the Federal Government’s IBP II (infrastructure acceleration programme), another noise abatement measure was carried out on the Middle Rhine Valley’s railway tracks. By order of DB Netz AG Koblenz, Hering constructed a 126 m long sound barrier along the track section Cologne - Bingen (kilometres 73.515 - 73.641).

The individual basket-like elements come from Hering’s cooperation partner Deutschle Bauunternehmen GmbH & Co. KG and are filled with lava rocks and dolomite. The Hering construction team built the low sound barrier during night-time off-periods. The baskets extend only 0.74 m above rails, harmonically fit into the scenery, and allow both rail passengers and residents of Andernach with houses in immediate proximity a clear view. Of course, the gabion wall has underpasses for small animals and ladders.
