In Austria it is the largest shopping mall in a city centre and is the commercial landmark of Innsbruck: the Kaufhaus Tyrol. At the location of the former traditional Kaufhaus Tyrol an entirely revitalized and newly designed complex with 50 retail shops, several food service establishments and a 30,000 m² rental space was created right in the centre of the city. The building, which was constructed based on the design of the British star architect David Chipperfield, is remarkable primarily because of its architecturally unusual façade made of white, elaborately processed pre-cast concrete parts.
