Première: Track-foundation-laying train ramming with hydraulic hammer!

The HRS 5 hydraulic hammer was used for the first time in conjunction with the track-foundation-laying train in Ulm on 27 February 2024.

The track-foundation-laying train was able to demonstrate its unique features for three days at Platform 7 at Ulm's main station. The deployment: Platform D, in the middle of Ulm’s main station, in a location that’s inaccessible to conventional construction machinery. The perfect starting point for our track-foundation-laying train, which made it possible to carry out the work without the need to dismantle the railway infrastructure.

Eight piles (DN508 / 20 millimetres, 13 metres long, with a weight of around 3.2 tonnes) were vibrated into the ground, each one to a depth of five metres below the upper edge of the platform, on 25 and 26 February 2024.

The HRS 5 hydraulic hammer then arrived to drive in the piles on 27 February 2024. With impressive power and precision, the track-foundation-laying train made short work of the task of sinking all eight piles one after the other to their final depth. Four of the eight piles were then drilled out with a continuous auger in the final stage.

The weather gods were also kind to the track-foundation-laying train and its team this time. The weather remained dry and the sun even showed itself from time to time, simply fantastic – also for the interested ‘spectators’ on the neighbouring platforms who seemed to be quite impressed with what the track-foundation-laying train was achieving.

The result at the end of the day: Eight ‘hits’ and everything ‘sunk’. And another total success for our track-foundation-laying train.
